The community of Hancock, MD and its nearby neighbors of Berkeley Springs, WV and Warfordsburg, PA are home to a great many families with limited resources. There is great need for help with everyday needs like food and clothing, and for more pressing needs like keeping the lights on, a place to live, or even a listening ear when stresses get to great. This is where organizations like the Interfaith Service Coalition come in. The ISC has been helping area families find needed services since 1989. Founded by a group of local churches, it has grown over the years to offer not only emergency food and shelter, but many other services to the community to meet a wide array of needs. Through its programs like Adventures in Friendship day camp each summer, and the Keep a Senior Safe and Warm program in the winter, ISC helps people of all ages by providing education, social services, and emotional support to community members in and around the Hancock area. The Loaves and Fishes thrift store offers low-cost clothing, household goods and furniture to local residents, and the S.H.I.P. program helps supplement the food budget of low income families.
